Wakasa, Yazu District, Tottori 680-0701, Japan

Tottori's best-kept secret. Wakasa is best known for its well-preserved townscape. While in town, have a stroll on Kariya Dori Street with its architecturally old-fashioned wooden buildings and cute shops.

field wisteria in the last week

A merchant town that originated from the castle town of Wakao Onigajo. It experienced three large fires during the Meiji era, and was rebuilt in 1888 by the local government at the time, incorporating fire prevention measures, and became the foundation of the current townscape. Old buildings such as Japanese houses with tiled roofs and a group of storehouses remain in good condition. How many houses are there in this small district? There were so many temples that I thought Above all, the clear water that flows through the cobblestone road and the "kawa" placed on the side. The smooth sound of water is pleasant to the ears✨✨ If you take a leisurely stroll, you'll definitely be healed 😌

A street that retains traces of the former Wakasa-juku. It is a street lined with quaint storehouses. It's one street away from the main road, so it has a quiet and calm atmosphere.

It takes less than 10 minutes to walk from Wakasa Station, the last stop on the Wakasa Railway. As introduced in Seiji Rokkaku's Nomitetsu Main Line in Japan, it is one street back from the main street, so you can take a leisurely tour without passing cars.

It's a lovely place. But I think the owner has a hard time maintaining it. If you're going to turn a personal property into a tourist destination, you probably won't be able to call it a really nice place unless you get some kind of subsidy or something.

It is an alley lined with old storehouses. As it is an old castle town with white storehouse walls and wooden fences, there is a canal that also serves as fire prevention water flowing along the street, giving it a very atmospheric feel. The road pavement was also in very good condition.
