Aobayama Park is a well-known tourist attraction located in the west side of Sendai city. It offers a quiet and relaxing environment for visitors. Inside the park, you'll find the Sendai City Museum (Under renovation until 31 Mar 2024), the Sendai Castle Ruins, and the Miyajiken Gokoku Shrine. To reach Aobayama Park, you have a couple of options. If you are coming from Sendai City, a leisurely walk will lead you here. Alternatively, hop on the underground to the International Center Station. Keep in mind that due to its hillside location, there's an upward walk of approximately 20 minutes from the entrance to the castle ruins. If you're up for some light exercise and want to enjoy scenic views, Aobayama Park is definitely worth a visit.

We walked up there from Sendai station. It was long. But definitely worth it (on the way back we took the subway, only 3 stops to Sendai). It is a beautiful climb (steep) and you get to the old castle, then a few more steps and you are before the statue that inspired the Star Wars character. Beautiful view of the city. Going down is a breeze and you will listen to the many birds hiding in the thick trees.

I believed this park was located on the site of the old Sendai castle. The castle is no longer there but we do see some old remnants of the past castle. This park offered a panoramic view of the Sendai city. Within the park, there are many different historical structures but sadly, when we were there, there was some renovation work on the Date Masamune on a horse statue but they did put up a picture on site for tourists to take pictures. We parked our car right at the bottom of the hill and walked up. It was quite a climb and took us around 30 minutes but if did offer us great views along the way.

The ruins of a castle ! I always like visiting caste but this is one of the most beautiful (thought there is no remaining castle now) but the view from the castle is just mind blowing. I don’t know exactly reason but there were some debate so the Govt. demolished the castle.
