Beautiful temple. Do not miss the Japanese garden with many large stones of heroic proportion. Quite dramatic, and quite unlike most traditional gardens. Entry for the garden is only ¥300.

Love the view from the garden. The rocks are supposed to look like a certain chain of mountains from China.

Awa no Kokubunji is one of the original prefectural temples founded in the 8th century. It’s temple #15 of the Shikoku 88 Temples Pilgrimage. The imposing main hall is under renovation but the famous garden is currently free (usually 300 yen) because the view is impaired by the renovations.

Main Hall is currently undergoing construction so they have a temporary hall to the right. Plenty of parking nearby.
