A good looking reconstruction of Echizen-Ono castle. You can enter the castle to get panaramic views of the surrounding city of Ono, and to get more context on what this castle was all about. Getting a picture of the castle itself is tricky, because it stands quite tall and on a hilltop surrounded by big trees. The best place for a picture I found is at the south-east end from the roadstation parking lot, using a telephoto lens. Getting to this castle can be done in two ways: the long winding slope towards the north-east or south-east side of the mountain, or a number of flights of stairs, totalling roughly 350 steps towards the west side of the mountain. Free parking lots are available on the west end, and the south-east end (near what looks to be a roadstation). The place is not exactly wheelchair accessible for its requirement to walk uphill for quite a while. Admission is ¥300 at the time of writing, and only applies to the castle main keep. All areas around it are free to roam. Benches are available at certain intervals during the climb, but I would recommend to be in good physical condition anyway. Toilets are available at the main keep (before admission requirement), and at the parking lots.

A cool rebuild of a castle It looks great from the outside and it's pretty center of oono so that's cool as it's ready to get there. The park around it was beautiful in autumn. As usual in Japan, the castle is rebuild. The inside is a museum but it's a bit of a shame that they did not try to redo the rings in the old style, too.

Such a unique place in the middle of a young town of Ono. 360° views from the castle are stunning. We were too late for the tour but the castle building itself is quite impressive. It has a pond full of coy fish and the reflection of castle in the pond is beautiful. Recommend if you're nearby.
