Tiny museum which represents a typical rebuilt Hakata house. It is interesting to see if you are passing by as basically nothing of old Hakata is left. Lovely souvenir store is located just next door.

Good experience to learn their culture. The old school way that vast differences with the now modern design and way. Take a look if you have little time to spare. Entrance tickets needed.

Hakata Machiya Hall is part of the 博多町家文化館 [ Hakata Machiya Furusato Kan], which is open to the public for free, while other two buildings do require symbolic admission for entrance [Yen 200 for the adults and free for junior and elementary students]. Three buildings have their own cultural presentation themes and local sweets sales- one to present the structure of Machiya [tradesman’s house], to exhibit handicrafts and to introduce and sell local specialties and artisan pieces to the tourists. The photos here are limited to Hakata Machiya Hall.

Beautiful and charming museum, bringing the spirit of old Hakata. Inside you can find old style silk waving machines, also a workshop with artists that make souvenirs, etc.
