Hakodate Gokoku Shrine
9-23 Aoyagichō, Hakodate, Hokkaido 040-0044, Japan
It was founded in 1869 to worship the government troop soldiers who died in the battle of Hakodate. The view of the Gokoku Jinja-Zaka Slope looking through the torii gate is superb.

It was rainy day when we visited the shine, and moreover it's near to closed hour, so we can only toured at the outside. Still we can feel the peacefulness of those who took their eternal rest without regret.

the shrine seems to be not operating? The donating box was also closed off. It is a beautiful shrine but looks like it is getting abandoned?

Beautiful shrine, especially in the snow.

Lovely area, impressively large, bright gate at the top of a beautiful tree lined street. Well worth stopping by if you are hiking or catching the ropeway up Mount Hakodate.

It is a beautiful place. This shrine is on a hill near the ropeway station In winter the snow scene of the stairs leading up to the shrine is very thick and pretty. #letsguide
