Tranquil today and cool, when the castle was hot and busy. Feels like a place that is well loved and used by community. A real place.

This is a shrine. It is located southeast of Himeji Castle. The red torii gate is very beautiful. Many people come here every year for New Years. Also, there are aristolochia which we planted when we were elementary school. It Is the food for black butterflies. So you can see some musk swallowtails during summer time.. It is very beautiful.

Beautiful shrine park with some smaller ponds as well. Don't come here after dark, or you'll be sucked dry by an armada of mosquitos.

Mitsuyama-taisai is a festival of cultural property in Japan. It have been held once every 20 years since 1533. Mitsuyama means "three mountains", actually you can see three big mountain-shaped objects that are capable of calling Japanese spirits during the festival. Former festival was held for 31 march to 7 April in 2013. The next will be held in 2033. If have an opportunity to come, you will be able to see rituals, people wearing traditional clothes.
