Kamayama-jinja Shrine deifies Hikoitsuse-no-mikoto, who was believed as the older brother of the first emperor of Japan, Jimmu in 600s BC. It is located in Wada, about 4 kilometers northeast from Kimiidera in Wakayama City. Behind the forest-ish main shrine, you will see an imperial mausoleum of Hikoitsuse-no-mikoto. It is believed that he breathed his last in Onominato after suffering from an injury received in Yamato subjugation. He is said to be buried in Onominato.

Visited as the second shrine of Wakayama's three shrines (Ita-Kiso Shrine, Kamayama Shrine, Mae-jingu Shrine and Kunikake Shrine). Kamasama Shrine is dedicated to Hikoitsuse no Mikoto, the eldest brother of the first Emperor Jimmu. There is also the mausoleum of Hikogose no Mikoto in the precincts, but after visiting the main shrine, I looked for an approach to the shrine, but I couldn't find the approach to the mausoleum, so I gave up on going there. I was able to worship the mausoleum from inside the car on the way home. (I found the entrance to the shrine grounds leading to the mausoleum, but there were no parking spaces nearby.)

If you can visit the shrine early in the morning, you will be able to feel the dignified atmosphere. If you visit here, you will probably also visit Ita-Kiso Shrine, Mae-jingu Shrine, and Kunikake-jingu Shrine, which I highly recommend!

It is a place where the air is crisp, refreshing and soothing. I would like you to visit it at least once.

Once you pass through the large torii gate, you will find yourself in a sacred place, with the solemnity typical of the former Kangai Taisha Shrine. Goshuin stamps are slightly larger and unique, and can be carefully handwritten. A visit to the beautiful main shrine will double your sense of freshness and make you feel like you're going to have a great day. It feels luxurious to be able to visit slowly 🎵

It is one of the locally famous shrines located on the way to work in Wakayama city. Although the shrine is crowded with New Year's visitors, there are not many people visiting at this time of year, so I was able to visit the shrine slowly and in a solemn atmosphere. After the rain, I felt calm and refreshed under the bright sunny weather that I hadn't seen in a long time.
