Before eating blowfish in Shimonoseki, I visited Kameyama Hachimangu Shrine. ``Kameyama Hachimangu'' is a historic shrine that is said to have been founded in 859 during the Heian period. It is enshrined in the center of Shimonoseki City, and has parishioners all over the city as ``Seki's guardian deity'' and ``Kameyama-sama.'' . The grounds include the ``world's largest calf statue,'' ``Kameyama Battery,'' where Choshu feudal retainer Genzui Kusaka fired a cannon at foreign ships to expel foreign ships, and the ``Fumiko Hayashi Literary Monument.'' In addition, each of the granite guardian dogs is a statue of a guardian dog with a child holding a young guardian dog, and guardian guardian dogs with children are rare and are said to be ``kotori,'' which are said to bring blessings for the prosperity of descendants.

Kameyama Hachimangu Shrine, located at its current location, is currently connected to land, but in the past it was once an island. There is an information board that says ``Seki's guardian deity,'' but it is enshrined as a parishioner shrine in Shimonoseki city. There are four deities enshrined (Emperor Ojin, Empress Jingu, Emperor Chuai, and Emperor Nintoku). It is said to have been built during the Heian period to commemorate the construction of Usa Jingu Shrine. Divine virtue is said to bring various benefits such as family safety, business prosperity, and safety from regrets. There are many things to see within the temple grounds. ``The world's largest blowfish statue,'' a large torii gate made of granite, and a guardian dog. Other attractions include the Okamejaya ruins, which are associated with the first Prime Minister Hirobumi Ito, and a monument to the birthplace of barbershops. More than 10 types of goshuin are available, and in addition to the regular goshuin, there are many variations such as zodiac signs and calendars. The staff at the company office asked me to choose one, but they were all so interesting that I had a hard time choosing. There are Karato Market and Ganryujima Ferry Terminal across the road next to the shrine, so you can enjoy sightseeing in the city.

Quiet, welcoming but we went on a cold day, maybe go on a warmer day as the wind and rain was quite easy to hit this shrine as it’s facing the sea on a hill with no cover. But a lovely little place.
