Beautiful forest shrine that looks like an inspiration for an anime ( apparently there is one based here). There's nothing to do but enjoy nature and make an offering to the Kami. There a large stone behind the shrine itself where you can make offerings.. perhaps the rock is a Kami itself ? There was a small path to climb up, yet it was very steep and thin with a sharp precipice below.

There are two ways up, either the steps or the concrete path on the left. The stairs end at the shrine, a fit person could reach in less than 10-15 mins including photo stops. Beyond the shrine, u can take the concrete path to the Summit with a cave u can walk thru. Bamboo poles (free) are provided beside the shrine area as u walk up. The steps area is great for photographers.

Stopped by before visiting the gorge. It's ok, more or less just another shrine. The top (past the shrine) is pretty cool with some stone stackings.

We arrived in the morning. It was still quiet and tranquil - before the tourist buses arrived. Do not miss the Uetoiwa wind hole located behind the shrine. There are bamboo walking sticks to assist you up the concrete path to the top

A very beautiful and tranquil yet mysterious place surrounded by really tall and straight trees. The atmosphere here is divine and the temperature is cooling. The shrine is approximately 2 hours 15 minutes drive from the city of Fukuoka. There are over 260 steps to climb in order to reach the shrine. The steps are not challenging or steep but might not be suitable for the elderly as the path is uneven.
