Very nice experience. The temple was well kept. Reasonable entry fee. You can sit by the gardens, very peaceful experience. The art on the walls were nice. Not too crowded, more of a calmer spot than other tourist destinations.

Crowed but quiet. Visitors came here to appreciate its history, beauty of architecture and artworks. This place not only display of those that were historical but also relevant works by modern artists

Kenninji (建仁寺) is the oldest #zen #temple in #Kyoto. It is  located in Gion district. I visited this temple today and l was amazed by the stone garden, fabulous paintings and history. The admission fee is 600Yen and you will be given an English/Japanese/Chinese brochure. The security guard in the Temple was very kind and helpful with advanced English and knowledge of the temple!

Lots of love for this temple. I want to be a monk on that era after visiting here. The garden in the middle is gorgeous. I wish i could take a nap and wake up with this view everyday. The surrounding garden that lead to the tea house also beautiful too. The arranged walking flow was effective and gave a nice experience. I got to explore everything. The temple also contain with lots of Japanese painting, i really enjoy looking at the dragon painting. Its somehow so contemporary. Would love to be back again for real.

I hesitated visiting this temple bc I thought it would be similar to the many other ones I visited in Kyoto, but I’m glad I went! There’s a lot of unique features about this place that really made it stand out, including the interior courtyard gardens (not just the typical zen garden) and the huge (modern) dragon painting on the ceiling. Be aware that it’s a large complex and a little difficult to find the entrance. It’s on the right side of the main building. Overall, great place to visit if you’re in the area!
