nice, mostly outdoor museum of restored, reassembled old village houses, park-like area with sakura and wisteria, beautiful, 3 km from Wakayama Station

Great exercise, beautiful views, and off-the-beaten-path options for when you want a little less company. There are at least four ways to enter the park that I know of.

It is good choice one at the refresh excursion if you board with ordinary holiday. Enjoy walking on up-down hill trail and the archaeology (folklore) museum. The location about 5km away from near station is a bit inconvenient. City bus service (Route No 90 and 94) in every hour.

Absolutely loved this place. A great museum explaining the history of the region and the burial mounds with associated cultural items (like Haniwa). Most descriptions were both in English and Japanese. The grounds were very well-maintained and the burial chambers were neat to be able to enter and look around. A fascinating insight into early Japanese history and its connection to the Chinese/Korean cultures at the time.
