Visited the temple on a special festival called “Kaerutobi Festival” (or Frog Hopping Festival). Quite many people come to see the frog in parade which runs the from mountain top to the cable car station and the back to the temple, and on stage. It would be worth only for the parade as it is quite far from the Osaka area with not much sight seeing spots along the hill road.

This is the sacred main temple of Shugendo in Japan. The huge figure of Zao Gongen (蔵王権現) in the main hall is stunning. It is displayed to the public only during a selected period in a year. If interested, one may learn about how Shugendo relates to Buddhism before visiting.

A sacred place that has existed for over 1000 years. The existing wooden buildings also have a history of over 400 years and are powerful. There are 68 columns that use natural wood as they are, and they are different in size and spectacular. There is a parking lot and a toilet.

Here was the prime destination of my wife and me on April 2, 2018 as we could not find any public toilet along the no-car zone. Judging from its external appearance, there is no wonder that the temple is a historical heritage. But naturally, we felt relieved to use it's modern toilets with no queue!
