It's been gaining popularity recently and it's crowded, so it's a bit difficult to get to. 😓 So I chose a weekday to visit the shrine. This time I climbed up to the main shrine. I got a cloth paper from the shrine office (I heard you can use your own cloth as well) and went to the main shrine. I polished the three stones and brought back good fortune. I found it on the way home, and they also had walking sticks that you could borrow.

After driving for a while on Route 415 from Nakayama Pass, you will come to the torii gate and parking lot of Jito Hachiman Shrine. From there, walk to the stone steps next to the shrine office, and the shrine building is located on a high stone wall in front. However, if you look at the structure of the precincts, you can see that from the road with the torii gate there is a straight line to the shrine office at right angles, and the shrine building is on the upper stone wall on the left.As I would later learn, the shrine building had been relocated to its current location. Therefore, we can see that the precinct shrines are lined up on the left and enshrined. To the right of the shrine building, a gigantic cedar tree, a sacred tree, soars up to the sky. It's amazing! Here's your wish.

Totomi Ichinomiya The enshrined deity is Kotonomachihime no Mikoto. She is the mother of Amenokoyane no Mikoto, who is enshrined at Kasuga Taisha Shrine, and is the ancestral deity of the Fujiwara family and the god of words. It is said to have been founded during the reign of Emperor Seimu, and was moved to its current location in 807 when Sakanoue Tamuramaro marched to the east by an imperial order from Emperor Kanmu. (Before that, it was a mountain behind the current main shrine and is still a prohibited area.) Because it is located in a difficult place along the Tokaido, it was considered a god of safe travel and the fulfillment of great wishes. As the belief in Hachiman spread during the late Heian period, the god Hachiman was worshiped at Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine in 1062. Since the name ``Kotomamama'' means ``your wishes will come true at will,'' many people stop by to pray for a safe journey and for their wishes to come true. Many books have written about this shrine since ancient times, especially in the Heian period, there is a story written in the 225th paragraph "Yashiroha" of Sei Shonagon's "Makura no Soshi". ``Myojin is the same as it is, and Itota no Moshi.'' is famous. "Jinnin-sama, as his name suggests, can make your wishes come true. It's wonderful." is what it means. There seem to be various theories, but it is said that Murasaki Shikibu put ``mono no aware'' into his works, while Sei Shonagon put a pun and a bit of irony into the Pillow Book called ``Okashi.'' In other words, "Jinin-sama, as his name suggests, can make your wishes come true. It's wonderful. (Well, it's just what the name says. Why don't you twist it a little?)" It is said to embody the fashionable spirit of Kyoto's courtiers.

Very old but beautiful 神社、we reached this place by taxi when it was dark. But the priest was making his praying, we were in time to pray and to wish our own good things.

Very peaceful place to visit, small, but beautiful. I really love that place. I’m not sure, but I hear someday something like: “your wishes can come true going there”.
