It was snowing in this area yesterday, 9 March 2024. Must prepare proper clothing and shoes (snacks and warm water) if you want to go for an hour walk to west gate from kurama temple. We did the opposite and entered from the west gate to kurama temple (pay 400 yen (original fee 500 yen) per person as we have purchased one day unlimited pass). It was abit stress in the beginning cause there a lots of stairs as we didn’t expect it… the distance is approx 2.5 km, but we were stunt by the snowing views along the way. What a wonderful experience.

Stunning! Take the scenic train with views of forests and streams. There is a funicular that takes you to the top. It's 200 yen but you have to pay 500 yen to enter the temple grounds. Well worth it.

Nice, easy, quiet but beautiful place for 3h walk. Not many tourists know about the place so it’s not crowded. You can borrow the hiking stick at the entrance and return it back at the exit gate.

There are not many tourists, and the atmosphere of the shrine is very quiet and peaceful. The cool weather and beautiful red leaves are perfect for slow walking.

Got here early in the morning. Not a lot of people (even on the way back). Went all along the path and back, do be warned that there are a lot of stairs. Great as a peaceful daytrip from Kyoto.
