Miike (Misogiike)

A pond within "Awakigahara Forest Park Citizen's Forest" along Prefectural Route 11 in Yabo, Awakigahara-cho Town, Miyazaki City. In Japanese mythology, it is considered to be the place where Izanagi-no-Mikoto-the god of country creation-removed impurities after returning from the land of the dead, and is also called "Misogi-ike". It is known as a great place for water lilies, and you can see yellow flowers floating in the pond during the summer season.
