Located in a corner of the Tokenji Temple of Morioka City, the Mitsuishi-jinja Shrine is a power spot said to be the origin of Iwate Prefecture’s name. It is effective for fertility, good relationships, and relief from illness. There is a legend that a god named “Mitsuishi-sama” expelled the raging Raseki demon from these lands, and made it promise never to do evil again as evidenced by its handprint left on a rock at this shrine.

While walking around morioka city we came across this place; 3 huge rocks which is believed that their is hand prints of demon on the rocks The shrine is small; it’s a cute place to visit not far from iwate park Just come if you are around the area The story of the shrine: "Mitsuishi" means "three stones", so the name of the shrine is derived from the three big rocks. Long, long ago, when Mount Iwate volcano to the northwest of Morioka erupted, three big rocks were shot out from the volcano. The people in this area believed that the Gods lived in the rocks as "God Mitsuishi". On one occasion, a demon appeared and bullied the people. So, the people asked God Mitsuishi for help. The God fought off the demon and tied him to the big rocks of the God. The demon promised never to do that again, and the God made him seal his hand print on the rock as a certificate. Then the demon returned back to far mountain...

This is the origin of the regions name which Means stone hands. Located behind a large Buddhist temple and has interesting history but it is quite small. The goushuin (shine stamp) is received at the sakurayama shine and is worth getting after your visit.

Very cute shrine in morioka near many other shrines and temples! It is easy to walk to and there is ample parking in nearby lots or shrines. Also, read the sign for some fun facts about the demon hand prints!
