Gifu has ukai in the summer. You can gather on the river bank and see the fisherman set off at night. I saw the real thing last year, and now I come to the museum to understand this tradition better. Great if you like birds, boats - or like me want to learn about Japanese culture.

Compact and focused on the theme - fishing ayu with cormorants. There was bicycle park at no charge, a rent a cycle port and car park at a cost. Having some English explanation made it friendlier for me. View overlooking Nagara River is breathtaking. Definitely worth a visit.

This place was very interesting and informative. I'm so glad I went before the viewing the actual fishing.

Great little museum has English subtitles for the movie though many exhibits are Japanese only
