It is one of so-called 8 Shinto shrines in Okinawa, and because it was built on the high rock above Naminoue Beach, it was the shrine for the Naha-port mariners to worship for the dead at harbor and pray for the marine safety and fishing harvest. The Shrine has various religious ceremonies and praying activities for religious purposes and for finance-funding reasons. It does have ceremonies for the babies, for the ill, for the deceased, while it also has praying ceremonies and practices for the construction industries companies, tour bus groups and other business groups. It is NOT uncommon for visitors to see tour buses or taxis parked in front of the Shrine and accepted praying ceremony conducted by Shrine's masters. The Shrine was damaged in 1945 war and was rebuilt in 3 phases, 1953, 1961, and 1993- after the war. The Shrine is fee-free for admission. For cultural-theme visitors, especially foreign tourists, it is worthy to visit the Shinto Shrine and its neighboring Buddhist Temple, Gokoku-ji.

It is a great and grand place. You can go to the counter to buy Yushou, which represents luck and peace and gives you a little peace and tranquility. It costs about 1,000 yen to get here by taxi from Kokusai Street, and 500-1,000 yen for the royal guards. Some of them will be sold out. It is recommended to go early. The beach is beautiful and worth going.

It was a nice Shrine it was okay not as good as many other ones I have visited the ground could use some work that's for sure especially behind the shrine to the north heading toward the beach just seems to be a forgotten piece of property that leads you to a beautiful beach area.

This shrine was good. Nothing really impressed me, though. It is small enough to see. It's definitely worth visiting if you are planning to go to Naminoue Beach. I was happy to visit here because it was very close to where I am staying tonight. I am not so sure if it is worth visiting from far.

This is a must-visit spot in Okinawa. Beautiful shrine at the edge of a cliff in Naha. It's a perfect little sanctuary amongst all the loud chaos nearby. There is a direct entrance to the beach from right next to the shrine will give you an amazing view seeing it on the cliffside. Parking can be difficult, but there are paid parking lots nearby.
