Niigata City History Museum Minato Pia

It is not a big museum, but sufficient for you to learn about Niigata history. The exhibitions seem a little old but kept well maintained. The location is a little bit far from the city centre but you can get there with the one day bus ticket, which also gives you a small discount for the entry. Admission by itself is already quite cheap though.

I am not really interested in history but the outlook of building is attractive so I went there. The visiting date is 8/4 ( Friday ) and cost ¥300/ adult. An interesting place with some English descriptions and most are Japanese. Many models that I may get little bit understanding about history. Not much people inside, small place and I stayed for 1 hour only.

Great view of the harbor from the museum side. Learn some historical information of Niigata and surrounding areas.

An interesting place to learn about Niigata’s past. The museum admission ticket is only ¥300. For travelers with kids, there is an activity area and a library on the first floor for free. After the tour in the museum, there are other historical landmarks to visit within the vicinity. This time of the year, I bumped into few locals carrying some picnic essentials so I assume, it is allowed at certain areas. *Photos taken on April 5th.

The history museum is a good place to understand the heritage of Niigata. All exhibits are in Japanese. There is an English audio guide available but the information is insufficient. We used translator, YouTube and the internet to find the missing information (which was obviously provided in Japanese)... was a good stop over nonetheless.
