Am going to have to limit this to 3 stars. Lovely people, clean space but the exhibits are limited. A lot of dioramas and art depicting the historic moment but this isn’t an art museum, is it? You won’t leave with much more knowledge that you entered with. Pity. Get the ¥1080 combo ticket with the castle, you can skip the castle line. Was out in about 30 minutes, 45 -60 is Max. Especially if you don’t read Japanese. (I get it, this is Japan)

Great place to learn about Osaka's history since the early periods. There are a lot of very detailed miniature sets depicting life in the Edo period all the way to the mid 1900s. If you are planning to also go to Osaka castle, get a set ticket for 1000 yen which includes entrance to both places (normally 600 yen each).

A wonderful museum about the history of Osaka throughout the times since its foundation. You get to see beautiful miniatures depicting the living and the lifestyle of the ages. I truly recommend a visit.

For enthusiasts of Japanese history, the Osaka Museum of History (大阪歴史博物館) proves to be an indispensable destination. Nestled in the heart of Osaka, this museum not only offers a fascinating glimpse into the region's storied past, but also provides a platform for cultural exploration. Upon visiting the museum, I was pleased to find a wide array of exhibits that beautifully showcased the rich tapestry of Osaka's history. From ancient artifacts to scale models and immersive displays, each section of the museum seemed to transport visitors to a different era. The carefully curated exhibits offered a comprehensive overview of Osaka's transformation from its earliest days to its present form. While the museum does provide some English translations, it would benefit from further expansion in this area. Nonetheless, I found that the exhibition design and visual representations were skillfully crafted, making it relatively easy to grasp the historical context even without fluency in the Japanese language. The interactive nature of certain displays further helped facilitate understanding and engagement.
