Saiku History Museum
503 Takegawa, Meiwa, Taki District, Mie 515-0325, Japan
Saiku Historical Museum counts among its collection items related to the unwed Saio princess, who served the goddess enshrined in Ise Jingu during the Heian Era. The museum houses Saio’s activities written in the classic works of literature such as “The Tales of Ise” and “The Tale of Genji” as well as finds from excavations that are still ongoing. Saiku Historical Museum features a lecture hall where educational gatherings and speaker events can be held. Within the Saiku remains where the museum is located, there are the Saiku Heian Era Park and the Itsukinomiya Hall of History, where visitors can feel and experience the palace of the Saio princesses in the Heian Era.

A museum that introduces the history of Saiku, which existed in this area until the Nanbokucho period. Excavations have uncovered vast ruins, but much remains unknown about Saio's actual life in Saigu. Here, the explanations are based on excavated items such as pottery, but also include some imagination, in a way that gives a concrete image. The ``Gungyo'' where Saio leaves the imperial family, crosses Omi and Iga, and descends to Ise gives off a melancholy atmosphere. In addition, the video exhibit inside the museum provides a detailed explanation of the actual excavation of the ruins. I highly recommend checking it out if you have time.

Exhibits the history learned from the excavation of the Saiku ruins. There are two video exhibits, both of which are excellent. A historical documentary of the group's behavior as seen in documents, a documentary of the excavation survey, and beautiful animation. I definitely want to visit this place before touring Saiku.
