A shrine located in Ote 3-chome, Fukui City. Located next to Fukui City Hall and close to Fukui Station, the Fukui Prefectural Office, and the downtown area, it is a modern building made of reinforced concrete in the middle of the city. The shrine is surrounded by the Fukui Senkyo Building in front, Hotel Fujita in the back, and the Fukui City Hall building to the east. There is a sense of excitement as you have to climb the concrete stone steps to get to the shrine grounds. There is paid parking below the precincts, so it is convenient if you come by car. This shrine is dedicated to Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first shogun of the Edo shogunate, Hideyasu Matsudaira, founder of the Fukui domain, and Yoshinaga Matsudaira (Shungaku), the 16th lord of the Fukui domain. Initially, it was also called ``Echizen Toshogu'' because it was dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, and there was also a flag erected saying ``A place connected to Tokugawa Ieyasu.'' It was also lit up, highlighting the approximately 150,000 origami cranes that had been dedicated in front of the main shrine.

Went their for a New Year's visit (hatsu moude). Impressed with beautifully presented origami paper cranes. Many kind of omikuji (fortune-telling slip) & omamori (good luck charm) were there for us to purchase. Handy from Fukui Station, probably around 15 minutes on foot.

A rather large shrine with parking available underneath. Wheelchair/slope access can be found around the back (to the right, near the statue). There is a shop/reception area to the left of the main building with omamori and ema for sale — The attendants were especially kind!
