There is a Sawayama Castle ruins parking lot (free of charge) at the foot of the mountain. There is no need to worry as there is plenty of parking available. I climbed it on a hiking course that passes through Ryutanji Temple. When I asked a local guide at the foot of the mountain, he said it would take about 40 minutes to reach the main enclosure. I climbed slowly while taking photos here and there (Nishinomaru, Shioshito Yagura ruins) and was able to climb the mountain in about 30 minutes. Even if you look at every nook and cranny, take photos, and take in the scenery, you can descend the mountain in about 70 minutes in total. You don't have to worry about your physical strength. It is said that in the era of Ishida Mitsunari, there was a five-story castle tower. When I imagined it, I felt that it was a towering castle! You can also see Hikone Castle and Lake Biwa from the main enclosure. The remains include the Kiridoshi, the Nishinomaru, the ruins of the Salt Tower, the Honmaru, the Sennuki well, and a few stone walls. Ishigaki, eh! This? That's what it feels like. There is a stone model of Sawayama Castle in front of the Sawayama Hall, which is right there. Gojo seals can be purchased at the Hikone City Tourist Information Center and the Hikone City Founding Memorial Hall. If you read the QR code at the main enclosure and answer the questionnaire, you will receive a stamp of Ishida Mitsunari on your castle seal.

I started climbing before noon on weekdays. Enter through the Sanmon gate of Ryutanji Temple and climb up through the cemetery. On the way back, I exited from the south exit. It's a mountain castle, so going up and down is good exercise. Other than the signboard, it's probably the same as it was back then. There are no other climbers on weekdays, so You can feel like you have traveled back in time Spectacular view from the top overlooking Hikone Castle and Lake Biwa.

The main route takes 15-20 minutes (going up) for a 1km high mountain. At the top we can't find the castle nor its ruins, but I guarantee you you'd have the best view of the city, the train lines and the elevator tower. No entrance fee.
