The Sendai City Museum had a wonderful overview of the history of the area. Starting with the first stone tools found in the area, but spending most of the time on how Date Masamune and his ancestors shaped the region. There were also wonderful exhibits on local art and arms, even though they were small. Most all of the museum had descriptions in both English and Japanese. We spent about two hours here, which seemed to be enough time. Dont miss the "hands on" section, meant for kids but fun to walk through for everyone.

Most of the exhibits have an English translation, but it is usually basic and not much more than a sentence you could gleam from looking at the object itself. Otherwise the exhibits themselves are interesting, and you can easily spend 60-90 minutes here depending on how interested you are in history.

Have many great collection. Most of them of course tell the story of Sendai. They also provide a walkie talkie like device that contains english explanation of some of the collection for free

Fantastic, very spacious and had many employees and volunteers who were eager to explain the history behind the exhibits. Photos were allowed of most of the items, and there was an interactive area towards the end. The bathrooms were clean and souvenir shop appreciated. There was also a free cloakroom/locker service which alllowed us to enjoy the museum without carrying too many things around.
