Admission fee: 240 yen. The building was formerly the barracks of the 4th Army Infantry Regiment. It is the oldest Western-style wooden building in Miyagi Prefecture, and has been designated as a Miyagi Prefecture Tangible Cultural Property. Photos of old Sendai, tools of farmers and craftsmen, military uniforms from four regiments, beds, and guns are also on display.

This is a great museum of local culture, and it’s also an important historical building. Worth a visit for the architecture alone.

The museum is a surprising treat if you're in the area. The entry price is cheap and there's a LOT of interesting history about Sendai. Even if you only speak English, you can still learn a lot since about half of the exhibits have high quality translations of English text as well. You can learn about everything from farming to the military, it's quite the value for just a few hundred yen.

Best spot to learn the history of Sendai area from Edo era to modern era. You can buy a lot of maps which are related to Sendai central district around 100 years ago.

This museum is cheap and more interesting than I thought. The activity room is where you'd spend more time than just seeing the other exhibition items since you can try various Japanese children games.
