福島浩晃 in the last week
Although it will close soon, I think it was a famous place where you can enjoy the world's Munakata, with good exhibition scale and content. The footage of Shiko that was shown inside the museum was powerful and I was moved by the way it conveyed his charm as a human being. It seems that the exhibition will be held in a different location even after the museum closes, but I would like to repeat it again.

It is a pity that it will be closed in March 2024. There's only a month left, but it's worth a try. All works can be photographed. It's a little far from Aomori Station, so we recommend taking a taxi. It was about 1600 yen.

A warehouse-style building that exhibits the works of Shiko Munakata, a board (not print) artist who Aomori, or rather Japan, is proud of. The exhibition room is not large, as Shiko wanted people to take a closer look at the works. It takes 10 minutes by taxi (about 1,500 yen) from Aomori Station, or 20 minutes by bus. Photos are OK as long as you don't use a flash. However, it is scheduled to close on March 31, 2024. Seriously...

A wonderful experience! Before you enter, you walk through a peaceful garden. This clears your mind and puts you in a relaxed state before you enter the museum. In the entryway, you can watch a video about Shiko Munakata. It's all in Japanese but you will still enjoy it even if you don't understand what's being said. You can watch the incredible energy that he brings to every print. The gallery itself is small, but Munakata wanted it this way so everyone can take their time viewing every work of art. They have seats so you can study the larger paintings from a distance. I spent about an hour here but you can easily spend more. There is also a great cafe and bakery across the street to go for lunch. I think this is one of Aomori's finest museums! A must see if you visit Aomori City!
