Worth coming to have a look if you're in Shiogama, but wouldn't come out of your way to see it or anything. Just another one of Japan's many shrines, and like most of them the area is pretty with some nice well maintained gardens and historical building and structures. Entry is free. The stairs that take you up here get the heart pumping, just as a fair warning.

Remarkable and historical Shiogama boasts a history of over 120years , it was said to have been the first shrine built in the Tohuku region. A very nice environment, calm and beautiful scenery. Recommended to have a visit.

Temple atmosphere itself gives us high energy. I love to go there again. A well maintaind temple with full of lush greenery and located in a hill. Has a very steep stairs from oneside and accessible by car from the other side too. Area is big and can walk for hr or two. Beautiful matsuhima islands also can be seen and its very nice as i went there near sunset time.

Beautiful, beautiful shrine. I really enjoyed it. One entrance makes you go up a lot of stairs, and the other doesn't.

Located in a very lush and green area, the temple is well maintained and beautifully decorated. I went to visit early morning and there were almost no people aside from a few on a morning stroll or doing morning gymnastics. The temple is clean and open, and there are public restrooms on the hilltop should it be needed. I don’t know how crowded it might be during the day, but I got to enjoy the holy site in silence :))
