This castle is a popular tourist attraction in Okinawa and is visited by many. The admission fee to the castle is very reasonable. The castle has a very peaceful compound and visitors can climb to the observation deck for a panoramic view of the city. However, the main structure of the castle was destroyed by a fire in year 2019 and currently, a team of professionals are working hard to reconstruct the building. It will take a few more years to complete. Therefore, there was nothing particularly impressive during the visit.

If you are taking the monorail, the entrance is all the way to the opposite side. There is some walking to do. The main hall is still under construction and visitor are allowed to see actual on going construction as well. The staff are located everywhere throughout the place and would help you when needed. Unfortunately it rained and there was very strong wind also. I couldn't really enjoy all the attractions.

Shuri Castle, located in Okinawa, Japan, is a captivating cultural gem with a rich history. Its distinctive red color and intricate architecture reflect the Ryukyuan style. The castle served as the Ryukyu Kingdom's administrative center for centuries. While the original structure faced destruction in World War II, meticulous restoration efforts have revived its grandeur. Exploring Shuri Castle offers a fascinating journey through Okinawa's past, showcasing artifacts, traditional costumes, and beautiful gardens. Visitors are immersed in the island's unique heritage. Despite its tragic past, Shuri Castle stands today as a testament to resilience and cultural pride, making it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and cultural aficionados alike.

This place is beautiful! It's still under construction as of now and is said to not be done till 2026, but it seems like they are really trying to showcase the process. There's so much fascinating history to this thing and so many beautiful sights. Id definitely recommend going, but it won't be in it's full glory for another couple of years.

This place as a cultural heritage was worth visiting few years ago. Nowadays you won’t find the castle anymore. The castle burned down in the 2019 and is currently in the process of renovation. There is a big shed built at the place where the temple used to stand and workers are actively working or reparations. It’s sad for travelers to not be able to enjoy the history as it was in the past , even though it’s not the first time the castle is being built from a scratch. The surrounding is still really nice and worth visiting. The entrance fee for visiting the “shed” and see the renovations is 400¥ , with that you can also enjoy the view of Naha city and a small garden surrounding the remains of temple.
