Nice day trip to see this 16th century castle in the middle of the city. We could see Mt. Fuji in the distance and even during winter, it was still nice to see the castle minus the crowds. Ducks, pigeons, hawks and even a kingfisher were at the grounds. Unlike the Matsumoto Castle, the renovated stairs inside here are not scary to step on. I just wish we could take photos of everything. Some areas were restricted. I want to come back and see the crazy festivals!

Quiet place, enjoy the castle on a cloudy day

Walked the attractive gardens (free). Didn't go into the small castle. Free parking right next door was almost full at 10am. Worth a stop if you are this side of the lake.

That’s a very well maintained place with a small but still nice garden around the Castle.

Nice little park with renovated castle, about 15 minutes away from the train station. It has many sakura trees and looks really beautiful. The view from the top of the castle is also very nice (cost ¥300). Great place to visit if you are around the region.
