Takebe Taisha is an old shrine located in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture that was founded in 116 AD (46th year of Emperor Keiko). It was founded in present-day Higashi-Omi City, but in the year 675 of Emperor Gotenmu (Hakuho 4), it was moved to Seta, which was then the location of Omi Province. In Higashiomi City, also in Shiga Prefecture, there is Takebe Shrine (pronounced Tatebejinja), which is the former Takebe Taisha. The deity enshrined at the main shrine of Takebe Taisha Shrine is Yamato Takeru no Mikoto, and the deity enshrined at the Gonden is Onamuchi no Mikoto. The main shrine building and the Gonden building stand side by side. When it was moved to its current location, it became Omi no Kuni Ichinomiya. It is the most prestigious shrine in Shiga Prefecture and is also a power spot. The blessings are good luck, career advancement, victory, warding off evil spirits, warding off misfortune, marriage, prosperous business, family safety, recovery from illness, and brewing. The wooden seated statue of a small goddess said to be the wife of Japan Takeru and the stone lantern in the precincts have been designated as important cultural properties of the country. In 2015 (Heisei 27), it was certified as a Japanese Heritage Site as a component cultural property of "Lake Biwa and its Waterside Landscape - Water Heritage Sites of Prayer and Living." The temple is No. 145 (Shiga No. 13) of the pilgrimage route to sacred sites of Shinto and Buddhism. The garden with Doudan azalea is very beautiful. Small flowers bloom in spring, and leaves turn bright red from autumn to winter.

Wonderful Ichinomiya shrine! Nice to visit if you’re headed to Hikone castle or Lake Biwa. Don’t listen to google about the final turn though, it’s blocked. Go in through the main Tori-gate. There’s a famous bridge walking distance from the shrine too. This is one of the many places dedicated to Takeru. There’s some funny manga-style history of him with the shrine at the front walk up. Inside has some fun areas to check out. 1) hand washing station has motion sense. Very cool and not wasteful. Inside the grounds, to the left, is a water instrument you can listen to with a bamboo stick amplifier. In the back left corner are rocks you can take (bigger to buy) where you write a wish and when it comes true you return the rock. Behind the shrine are “three treasures” The first is fossilized flowers of the imperial flower supposedly showing something like the strength of Japan, the middle is a mirror, possibly to connect to the Imperial regalia mirror at Isa-grand shrine. And last, is a rock that says it’s mentioned in japans national anthem. The “stone that becomes a mountain/building/foundation of Japan” but it’s an ugly chunk of cement. I was laughing. You can buy cool clam shell Enma, and visit the small Taiko bridge and koi pond and waterfall too. Amazing little area, nice free parking, and beautiful bathrooms with vending machines. Highly recommend a visit.
