This is a great off the beaten path place to dive deeper into Buddhist iconography. Of course there are places to pray all along the inside and outside the caves. The caves are hundreds of years old so they only open a few passage ways at a time to slow down the wear and tear from visitors. If you go in January you might see different stuff in February! There is a sweets shop but nothing else around however, if you time your visit right it's easy to catch a bus back to Ofuda station.

Very beautiful place. Around the cave you will also find a kind of a little garden with different sculptures and plants. If you also searching a quiet place where you can rest for a while this is definetly the place. The cave itself is also very beautiful. Taking pictures is not allowed, but there much to see inside. I can warmly recommend a visit.

Taya Caves in Yokohama are a mesmerizing blend of nature's craft and human ingenuity. Carved into the rocky hillsides, these subterranean wonders bear testament to centuries of spiritual devotion and artistry. As you meander through the dimly lit corridors, the intricate Buddhist carvings and inscriptions evoke awe and reflection. The naturally cool atmosphere and the echoes of dripping water add to the caves' mystical ambiance. A visit to Taya Caves is not just an exploration of underground marvels; it's a journey into Japan's rich spiritual tapestry. For history enthusiasts and seekers alike, these caves are a hidden gem awaiting discovery.

This one’s very interesting cave near by ofuna kannon ji shrine. We can take bus from ofuna station to reach here or we can walk for 25min to this place. We need to pay 400¥ for the entrance and we’ll be given one candle which we need to light up before we enter the cave. Photography inside cave is not allowed but trust me caves is so beautiful and amazing. Recommend to visit with friend cause it’s scary if we go alone inside.. 😜

Best caves ever! It was cheap. They gave you a small candle to light your way so bring a flashlight to. There were lights inside to guide you but again there were so darker areas. Cooler inside to so nice in the summer. Omg these were the best caves!
