Loved the porcelain toori and was glad of the atmosphere at the shrine.

Tozan Shrine 陶山神社 at Arita 有田 - special in that many of its archways and other structures are made in porcelain (not by stone as usual) Arita was one of the first sites in Japan to produce porcelain, Arita ware 有田燒 A nice quaint town to visit especially if you love pottery And that stunning ginkgo tree (when in season)!

Very tranquil shrine with lovely porcelain related artwork all around. Carpark is available, and you can drive up all the way (careful of the narrow driveway). Probably will not take up longer than 1 hour of your time if you make a visit. There is also a railway track right at the entrance with passing train once in a while! Instagram worthy place!

Visiting this temple after our trip to Arita downtown. This place is small. But very unique as there are many porcelain sculptures including porcelain Torii gate here. If you are lucky , you can take a photo of the train which running cross the stairway too.

This is a very unique shrine. Due to the number of foreign guests who come for the pottery, signs are in many languages, so it was easier to appreciate the history of the shrine. The ema of the shrine were made of porcelain, which I found very cool. Much of the shrine has various Aritaware, so it makes for very striking photos against the fall foliage. It’s pretty easy to hike to the top from the base. It took about 10 minutes with stops for photos and appreciation of the sights. I strongly recommend visiting this shrine when visiting Arita and Saga Prefecture.
