Good long walk up the snowy path. Must have good snow shoes as it was very slippery, along the hike is beautiful.

I went there on Jan 2023, the view was fabulous. There's snowing covered all around the path way. But the local Nagano government has done perfectly security and service, they have staffs to take care of anyone visiting there even it's quite hard a bit dangerous especially for the old people to go there at the period of time (you better prepare winter boots or shoes's stud strap) it will be comfortable and easy to walk since the path is quite long and you need a bit climbing. (It was around -7° but I have a take my jacket off a while) When I was there, it didn't have many people or tourists, so I spent around 2-3 hrs peacefully. For the tourists, the best way to go there in the winter is a rental car with winter tires. Since there's no public transportation but the bus only. And when they drop you off, they're not gonna pick you up like a regular bus. So recommended to renting a car and you can go anywhere as you like.

The walk and the trees are absolutely stunning, some of them are over 800 years old. Depending on the weather, the path can be quite slippery, take good shoes and make sure you are comfortable with Klein being big steps across large rocks. The temple at the top is modest and small, a little bit underwhelming, compared to other things you can see in the area. There is not much of a view, as there are a lot of trees around. If you’re lucky, you can see some monkeys on the way up.

Nice trail aligned with tall trees. The hike is 40 minutes to the upper shrine. The first half of the hike to the gate is easy, but after the gate, it gets harder and harder. The beginning of April has slippery snow. Several people fall, I fall once too, most of us are unable to get to the Shrine, we have to stop right before we get to the Shrine because it is just too dangerous.

We trekked in with our snowshoes and had no issues getting to the shrine. We saw many others walking, which I would not recommend. The path becomes slippery and at the end, it is very easy to fall as you’re walking up or down from the shrine. Do not stand too close to the buildings as you just don’t know when the snow might slide from the top. The pathway up is beautiful thanks to the huge cedar trees. If you’re in the area don’t miss your chance!
