Uwajima Castle

A famous 100 castles that are easily accessible from Uwajima City. After enjoying the famous Uwajima sea bream rice, slowly climb up to the castle tower. The view is good, and although the exterior is small, it is a magnificent wooden castle tower with a main pillar. There is also a castle town, so it's nice to walk around. I was lucky because I also included the oldest turret (south turret).

This is a very old castle, and a lot of the structures seem original or at least very old. The stairway to the top can be pretty daunting to some people, but there is another route to the top, however, this route is much longer, as it winds its way around the mountain to the top. The view from the top is pretty impressive, and offers a great view of the town and the bay. The museum is pretty basic, but still has a lot of good information. We went near the end of the year, when a lot of castles close, but Uwajima was still open when we went.

One of the “12 genzon tenshukaku” castles. This one sits on top of a small hill and offers a great view over Uwajima and it’s bay.

visiting Uwajima Castle during cherry blossoms season is worth it, one of the best castle in japan, the view from above was stunning, I tried to go inside of castle, first you need to pay 200 yen it's worth the price remember japan you need to try everything, inside there was a Samurai armour, a history of this place, an old castle built in century, you can take a picture inside, outside the castle you can see the cherry blossom tree, entrance there is a locker if you want to leave you things, just insert 100 yen and when you comeback you can take it again, I was amazed walking on top is not easy, but there is a two way going on top, the finished cement and the shortcut way but more difficult refreshing when you reach the castle, but remember to bring your water

A wonderful castle for sure. Highly recommend taking the ramp access which is long way around to the castle. The stairway leading to the castle is pretty steep. The castle is very well maintained as is the grounds that it is on. Definitely a great location to take a picture pretending like the castle is your house. Be aware that there are not many souvenirs for the castle itself. The guide will tell you where you can buy souvenirs in town. There is also a flyer inside giving the address.
