Wow. Walk around the corner and when you first lay your eyes on this ancient elevated shrine, you say wow. The glorious stoned stairs leading up to the shrine complex, daunting yet alluring. A feeling of spirituality once you reach the top and enter the shrine. Free to enter at the time of writing (August 2023).

Great view reached by steep steps

A very beautiful place. The Tenmangu Shrine worships the scholar god which made it the number one choice for students to visit during new year's or before an exam. If you're ever here, try going at spring. The park close by have a famous cluster of sakura trees.

Very quiet place on the border of wakayama city. There's no one there at all. I had the whole temple to myself, tried to buy some charms but there's no attendant. Good getaway from those crowded and overrated shrines.

Small shrine on hilltop with a great lookout, great for a visit on a nice day. The staircase is quite steep so comfortable footwear is highly recommended.
