Yamamachisuji (Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings)
67 Kifunemachi, Takaoka, Toyama 933-0929, Japan
Yamachosuji Street is the former main street that ran through Takaoka and connected the region with Kyoto. Many successful merchants resided here, and several old buildings remain standing along a stretch of the street, reflecting the wealth enjoyed in the area.

It is a preservation district for groups of traditional buildings. The buildings here are beautiful and the atmosphere is good, so it's a good place to take a walk and take photos.

The old townscape is well maintained. There are so many variations of buildings that you will never get tired of looking at them. It's great that it hasn't been renovated in any way. It's close to Takaoka Station, so we recommend visiting when you're in Takaoka.

I think it's about a 10-15 minute walk from Takaoka Station and Takaoka Castle. The area is lined with former merchant houses built in a clay storehouse style and has a great atmosphere, making it a recommended place for a walk around town. In addition to houses designated as cultural properties with information boards, there are also buildings that are about 100 years old. I felt like I could feel the atmosphere of the Meiji to Taisho eras, which were aiming for modernization. This is more recommended than Takaoka Castle.
