Lovely lookout of Beppu. Possibly not the best view of the onsens, but it makes for some nice nighttime photography.

This is one of the best places to view the city and the mountain behind. It’s not a tough drive and parking is easy and free. The observatory is relatively empty and quiet. There is also a deck where you can take better pictures from. There is a toilet here as well.

We went during the daytime. It isn’t worth the trip unless you visit in the evening to see the chimneys of white smoke. It is a small area in a residential neighborhood.

Nice observation deck with roughly 6 free parking spots (yeah!). You can go on top of the tower or hang around on the fence till you see the sun setting behind the mountain. I like to see the steam coming from the buildings built close to the mountain ridge. I think this place is very decent to see the spectacular views from this city.

It is really far from the tourist area and hard to get to with public transportation. I ended up having to walk an hour there an hour back because I keep missing the bus that's every hour. The view is amazing, it's a small observantory, there is no public toliet or stores.
