Hinjitsukan is a former guesthouse built in 1887, not far from the Meoto Iwa in Futami along the coast of Ise City. Originally constructed to host important guests who were visiting the Ise Shrines, the two-story guesthouse is now a museum displaying architectural and interior designs from the Meiji Period.

Hidden gem spot if your visit Mie prefecture. This was an imperial vacation house for the Japan Emperor families whenever they come to Ise. Now is opened for outsider to experience its beauty and glory. It's probably one of the most luxuries traditional house I've seen in Japan. There's a comfortable beach right in front of the house.

(Trip was made back then on 22 Nov 2019, 2 years before the Covid-19 Pandemic hit) We visited this beautifully designed former guesthouse which now serves as a museum for visitors. After it’s completion in 1887, it received its first guests which were members of the imperial family, while also catering exclusively to the rich and honoured guests. Hinjitsukan served as their temporarily lodge when they visited the area to pay their respects at Ise-jingu Shrine. Past the impressive exterior, are equally stunning traditional Japanese architecture. The pièce de résistance would be its Grand Hall located on the 2nd floor, it’s ceiling covered with intricate designs and gold lead gilding. It also has a meticulously landscaped garden created by renowned gardeners. Having a home like this would be like a dream…..

I really enjoyed going to this place. It was the emperor's summer home many years ago. Seeing the architecture and designs inside the building were very nice. The only problem, is that it's a bit empty on the inside. But the outside garden is very nice. You get to wear some nice wooden sandels as you walk around outside.

It was a really old building but in good shape for its age. Beautiful place I learned allot here it’s huge and well kept. Worth the ¥300 or so that we paid to see it and they gave us a paper in English explaining some of the historical value of this place. It was the emperors summer home build around 1887

Very quiet museum, architectural site and nice garden. Come in and rest for a moment on the balcony, bring a book and absorb the atmosphere!
