Hokkaido Jingu, nestled in the serene Maruyama Park, is a spiritual haven in the heart of Sapporo. As Hokkaido's main Shinto shrine, it exudes a tranquil ambiance and rich cultural significance. The majestic torii gate marks the entrance, leading visitors to the main hall adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant vermilion hues. The surrounding forested landscape enhances the sacred atmosphere, creating a serene retreat from the bustling city. Hokkaido Jingu is not only a religious site but also a place of natural beauty, especially during cherry blossom season when the park blooms with delicate pink flowers. Whether seeking spiritual solace or appreciating architectural splendor, Hokkaido Jingu offers a harmonious blend of tradition, nature, and tranquility in the vibrant tapestry of Sapporo.

We visited this shrine on a Saturday before we left Sapporo. It was beautiful! It's within a park area that is a short walk from a station so it's easy to get to. There's a few other things around so it might be worth a day trip there. On the walk up to the main shrine were smaller shrines along the path. There was a ¥10 bread (bread shaped like a big ¥10 coin, it unfortunately costs more haha!) shop and also some stalls further up towards the shrine selling food items, too. It's a bit shrine and also has charms/amulets and goshuin available. It's worth a visit and was beautiful in the snow.

Worth the trek, especially in the snow. It is kind of magical. If you go to lots of shrines and temples, you may not find this one to be anything special, but it’s a good way to kill some time. They also have a good variety of food stalls (including ten-yen bread- for 500 yen).

The most popular shrine in Hokkaido. It was super crowded on the 3rd of January. There were so many people that the car park queue was 2km+ long! Everyone came here to pray for good luck and wishes for the new year, and same for me too! Definitely worth a quick visit for a short prayer and endless blessings 😃
