The view of Tomonoura from here is quite nice. It's quite a slope so it will be a little difficult. I think it was written somewhere that the temple was built by Kobo Daishi and is the second oldest in Tomonoura. The view is said to be even better at Ioji Temple's Prince Hall, which is located higher up than this. However, it seems better to be prepared for the pain.

It is a temple with a spectacular view that allows you to see all of Tomonoura. It is built on a hilly area, and the grounds have been leveled with stone walls, giving it a bit of a fortress-like appearance. The temple grounds are free to enter, and the bell tower, which tourists can also poke at, is also a popular attraction. On sunny days, the sound of the dry bell echoes toward the Seto Inland Sea.

Wonderful view. You should try to be there at dawn. You will see the sun come from behind one of the islands which gradually shines the town below and in front of you. Met an old local lady who gave me a brief history of the Tomo.

Beautiful view in the end of the path that starts in the temple’s area. Not too hard. Definitely a MUST if you’re in Tomonoura.
