Cool place to stop for a break and try and find all the statues.

If you are in the area, worth stopping off to see. But not worth going out of your way to see. Beaches have plenty of modern flotsam. Which is actually the purpose of the carvings, to think of those lost at sea. Some more scenic views a little further to the north.

Beautiful scenery with an amazing carved stones. Close to Fukura station

If you're driving the route 7 on the Yamagata/Akita border then this is a nice stop to see a piece of history set in nature. You can have ramen first at the rest stop then take the path to the sea. Try to find all the monks who protect traveller's on their journey.
