There’s a grandma yelling asking for entrance fee which is rather rude - they could have put up a sign up front at the gate

Beautiful & historic place. This is no.2 precious sightseeing spot in Yamaguchi city. Here is Japanese garden version 2 in Japan compared with the first version in Kyoto but not so crowded. We can enjoy the peaceful and fresh pure atmosphere here.

The gravel garden on the entrance side of the temple (up the wooden stairs and turn left) is my preference to the biggger famous Sesshu garden, representing Japan at the rear, but all the gardens are beautiful and encourage mindfulness, or seeing reality as it is by defying interpretation. There are souvenir shop and a cafe overlooking the garden.
