Kyoto Station Building is beautiful as well as functional. Packed with restaurants and shops, there is plenty to do while waiting for your train. The structure itself is an architectural marvel and you are encouraged to explore it. The view from the upper gantry allows you to see the City of Kyoto towards the west, including Kyoto Tower and numerous Temples. Highly recommend allowing yourself enough time to see it all.

Beautiful architectural train station in Kyoto. Worth to spend a few minutes visiting. 10 and 11th floors are food courts. Ramen on the 10th.

One of the busiest station in Kyoto, all the routes are gathered here as a center point. For reservations seat route, recommended to book your ticket in advance, or else get an IC card which is accepted and convenient for your travel. Peak hours required more than 15 minutes of waiting time and required to get squeezed. Kyoto tower is just within walking distance and has an underground shopping and food arcade to spend your time. Isetan is just beside the station with the highest Two floors housing plenty of restaurants choices. Again it requires queuing and peak hours.

Easy to get around if you only speak English. Make sure to do the sky walk, it offers free views of Kyoto very high up. There are many places to eat in and around the station. If you ate lucky, you may catch an impromptu piano performance.

There is usually a free art show when I visit the light-up stairs near the top floor. There are many places to eat, but secure a seat/reservation at one before meal-time rush times (if possible). There are restrooms (though they may be hard to find) and many souvenir shops. There are also many beautiful views inside and outside for photo opportunities. I highly recommend taking a stop here on your journey through Kyoto.
