It took about 15 minutes to walk slowly from Nishi-Yonezawa Station. After paying the admission fee at the reception and proceeding to the back, you will find the mausoleum of Kenshin, who was relocated from Mt. Kasuga, in the middle, and the successive feudal lords are lined up on either side. There is also the mausoleum of Lord Takayama. It's clearly marked with directions, so you can easily find it.

A quiet, solemn mausoleum with a sense of simplicity and robustness. The lords of the Uesugi family, the Yonezawa clan, are lined up, centered around Kenshin. The lord of the domain is here, and his family and retainers are said to be at Rinsenji Temple in Yonezawa City. At Rinsenji Temple, I was able to meet Mr. and Mrs. Kanetsugu Naoe.

When I passed through the gate, I felt that the atmosphere was clearly different. The manager at the reception desk? He was a very friendly and pleasant person. The cemetery is clean, well-maintained, and really clean. It was a calming place with the faint scent of incense in the air.

This is the Uesugi family graveyard in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture! ️It felt like it had a very heavy atmosphere of a graveyard. This is the place where the graves were moved when the territory was reduced from 1.2 million koku to 300,000 koku from Echigo to Yonezawa🍀 where the successive lords of the domain are buried. When you go to Yonezawa Castle Ruins, please go and see it. The parking lot can only accommodate about 10 cars 🎵 There is also an entrance fee! ️You can receive a helmet made of origami 🙇

The graveyard of the Uesugi family is called ``Otamaya''. There are from the first generation to the twelfth generation, and you can also make incense for Kenshin. Although it is a modest mausoleum typical of the Uesugi family, which is simple and sturdy and avoids excessive decoration, each structure is quite good. The structure of the mausoleum differs depending on the burial method. Lord Kenshin's house was made in a flown style, and from the 2nd generation to the 8th generation, it was cremated and the gabled house was built. After that, it will be buried in the grave and will be in the form of a treasure. Even though the temples are of the same construction, the height and angle of illumination of the corners are slightly different. The second small mausoleum from the far left belongs to Lord Akitaka, the biological son of Lord Takayama, who died young. They were built together because he was planning to take over as head of the family. The entrance fee is 400 yen. It may seem expensive since it only takes about 10 to 15 minutes, but it might be worth thinking of it as a contribution to preserving historic sites. Parking lot and toilet available. You can get a small folded paper helmet for free at the reception.
