Okura residence
1-78 Ogurachō, Fukushima, 960-8064, Japan
Ogura-tei (The Former Ogura Residence) is a traditional Japanese residence that was built for the head of the Fukushima branch of the Bank of Japan in 1927. The Fukushima branch was the first Bank of Japan branch in the Tohoku region. The residence was also used by the American Army following WWII which resulted in the reception room being re-modeled in a Western style.

It was apparently built in 1928 as the residence of the former Bank of Japan's Fukushima branch manager. The tour is free. The garden is well maintained and the building has a nostalgic, old-fashioned atmosphere. It was decorated with cute dolls. It seems like the room is being rented out. At the time of our visit, three groups of people were using it.

Admission was free. It's a comfortable place. I was looking at the Abukuma River and the garden, feeling nostalgic. It's still hot. . . I would like to come back when it gets a little cooler.

Admission is free. The breeze from the river felt good. I thought that the local people were carefully preserving it. It's a 15 minute walk from Fukushima Station. Ideal for walking courses.
