Packed with kiddy things to do, that adults will enjoy too It is a sort of science museum with all sorts of buttons to press and things to see, and a few experiences that you are unlikely to find elsewhere such as: a moon walk simulation machine, on springs, a spin yourself nauseous person-sized sit-in gyroscope, and a space shuttle landing computer simulation. There are also exhibitions of local fauna such as poisonous millipedes, or jellyfish depending on the year. The temporary exhibition this year was of cog-wheel powered dolls that laugh or blow each other kisses when you spin a handle. There are lots of Japanese school children that come and go in buses. There are swan themed pedal boats on, and a jogging path around, the lake, that people rarely use, preferring the air-conditioned space-station museum. While my children enjoyed the museum for the third time, I jogged around the lake and went to a local swimming pool to get a shower. It is cheap too at about 500 yen for adults and 100-300 yen for children depending on their age. Our children are happy to be there for three hours on their third visit. If you want to experience the planetarium guide to the galaxy, that nearly doubles the price. We have not tried it. The champon noodles in this Takeo area are great, and is the hot spa.

Great place to spend a day with children (3-10 years old), plenty activities available. The only thing terrible is the restaurant, where we waited for long time to get relatively expensive and mediocre food. If you don’t want to spoil a day, plan a lunch in other place.

Like this place a lot! It’s the reason we traveled to Takeo during this trip to Kyushu! 🚀🛰🛸🦕🦖 A great place to rekindle the long-lost curiosity I had when I was a kid! 😆 Wonderful illustrations and setups to let young kids explore and experience! (There were lots of school kids on the day we visited the museum)
