Soto Zen Gohozan Shionji Temple
4-chōme-6-28 Shintera, Wakabayashi Ward, Sendai, Miyagi 984-0051, Japan
This is a Soto sect temple in Renbo neighborhood constructed by Date Hisamune (1453-1514), ancestor of the Date clan, in the Date District of Fukushima during the Kansho era (1460-66). (FYI the Date clan is named after the region, not vice versa). It was moved north to Marumori in southern Miyagi, before finally being relocated here in 1602.

It's a temple. It looks like a Soto sect temple. When I was exploring the town to see the cherry blossoms, I noticed the green of the pine trees and the pink of the cherry blossoms, so I stopped by. Parking is available. The temple had a very beautiful garden. The trees were well taken care of. Under the cherry blossom trees, benches (chairs) were set up so that people could enjoy the view. There were several fine pine trees standing there, and they were deep green and beautiful. There were small pine trees on both sides of the temple. Although the temple is located in the middle of town, it had a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The fresh greenery in the summer and the autumn leaves in the fall are beautiful, so I'd like to visit again.

Shoonji Temple is nestled in the middle of the city, with beautiful cherry blossoms on both sides of the approach. There are two beautiful cherry blossoms in the cemetery across the road...I slowly enjoyed spring.

Be sure to visit during cherry blossom season. The contrast between the red carpet of camellias and the green moss was also beautiful. The moon and rabbit decorations at Kugetsudo are so cute. The Nemuri Neko at Nikko Toshogu Shrine is cute, but there is a more soothing spot closer to home.

Visited this place a lot. It's a great place to visit when you have some spare time. It has quite big Japanese garden in front (outside gate) and a bit of sand garden inside. Sakura trees bloom here so make sure you come in spring to see for yourself.

It's easier to take pictures if you go early in the morning. If you have a bell, you will be promoted. The Date family grave is next door. A 200-year-old cherry tree will welcome you. Sunamon Samon is always beautiful. There are many pumice rocks.
