Meiji ishin hero. No blood transition from samurai government to democratic government. There are Saigo sam's statue in Tokyo too. Photo area is a plus! (With a dog!) Get bus pass to visit. Shimazu clans (Kagoshima castle) spots are all walking distance from here. You can take tour from visitor's center next to Saigo San statue.

It's good to learn some history of Mr. Takamori and his journey in Kyushu and Kagoshima. Sad ending for him though.

A statue of Saigo Takamori near the place he participated in his last battle during the Satsuma Rebellion.'

I visited at midnight, but the presence and solemnity was overwhelming comparing to other statues in Kagoshima. The contrast between the sound of the car running the road, and the frog crying at the pond made me feel strange and heart warming at the same time. Across the street, there is a photo shooting spot and a stand to set your camera. It shows that still Saigo is the no.1 hero of Kagoshima.
