Amazing and informative experience. We were made to feel so welcome and at ease. Our hosts were kind and generous, explained all about the history, demonstrated the ceremony, and then instructing us as we made our own bowls of matcha tea. A fantastic experience in Kyoto, highly recommended.

One word: authentic. The host is really nice and teach us a lot on the history but also on the ways of doing a traditional tea ceremony. It’s a great value for money if you like authenticity and relaxing zen/ spiritual moments. The matcha is super qualitative in itself. It’s a must do while visiting Kyoto.

The ceremony itself was very good They were answering all the questions asked and even gave a good tour of the temple. They demonstrated us very nicely and gave us the chance. The staff was very patient and we enjoyed a full 1 hour 30 minutes

Participating in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony was an absolute highlight of my time in Kyoto. The hosts were incredibly knowledgeable, offering captivating insights into the art of crafting a perfect matcha tea. Watching the meticulous process was mesmerizing, and they shared the rich history behind this cherished tradition. It was evident that each step was performed with utmost care to ensure that every guest had an exceptional experience. Having the opportunity to make our own matcha tea was nothing short of incredible, and the taste was simply divine. This experience left me with a profound appreciation for the artistry and mindfulness that goes into every cup. A truly unforgettable cultural experience that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto!

My mother visited Kyoto during my study abroad and we decided to join the tea ceremony at Ju-An. I’m not sure if every session is run by the same person, but the woman who instructed ours was absolutely lovely. Kind, patient, knowledgeable, and elegant!!! The ceremony workshop was very well-constructed, relaxing, and educational. Kimonos are not necessary at all but my mother and I decided to rent them from the nearby store listed on the website (but the other visitor wore regular, everyday clothes just fine). The tea ceremony at Ju-An was of our favorite experiences in Japan. We’ll treasure this memory for sure! Highly recommended. Thank you for having us ☺️
